School Admissions

Bluecoat C of E Primary School admits children into the Foundation Stage Reception Class in the September of the academic year in which they will turn five years old. Our Published Admission Number (PAN) is 75.

Parents, carers and children will be invited in to visit the school once admission has been confirmed and the class teacher will arrange to make a home visit. We offer a “Getting to Know School” induction programme during which the organisation, administration and routines of the school are explained. Parents and carers will have opportunities to find out about the kind of learning experiences their child will meet. They will be informed about how they can get involved in school and also receive ideas on how to support their child at home.

During the induction process the children have the opportunity to spend time in their classroom, to meet their classmates and get to know the adults with whom they will be working. Induction takes place at the end of the term prior to the child starting school.

The school follows the Devon County Council Guidelines for Admissions and our Admissions Policy is available for download in the useful links below.

Visiting the School

Prospective parents, carers and children are welcome to come and look around the school. Please contact us to make arrangements.

Starting School - September 2020

We pride ourselves on our comprehensive 'Getting to Know School' Programme for children starting in Reception. Unfortunately, due to the current restrictions placed upon schools throughout the Coronavirus pandemic, we are unable to arrange all the usual meetings and visits we would like to for the September 2020 intake.

Whilst this is extremely disappointing, we are confident that we can deliver most parts of the programme, albeit in a slightly more ‘virtual’ or ‘remote’ manner will be keeping parents updated as we move towards the new academic year. We will also be using this section of the website to share information. Please check back regularly for updates.

Nest & Nursery Admissions

The Bluecoat Nest offers high quality care and education in a nurturing and stimulating environment. Children can join The Nest in the term after their second birthday, and parents and carers will need to complete an application form in order to apply for a place. Generally, children will stay in The Nest until the term after they are three and then they will make a gradual and supported transition to the Nursery.

Children can join the Nursery in the term after their third birthday until their entry into Reception.

Application forms are available from the School Reception or can be downloaded in the Useful Links & Downloads below.
