Devon County Council is the admissions authority for our school, responsible for the admissions policies and decisions when there is an application for admission. We have an admissions policy for each academic year. Policies are written to comply with the School Admissions Code 2021 and the School Admissions Appeals Code 2022. We take part in the normal round and the in-year co-ordinated admissions schemes of Devon County Council.
Once you decide you would like a place you must make a formal application. This is the same for all new admissions, including children who have a sibling with us, children who have been a pupil here before. You can do this by applying to the Local Authority (Devon County Council).
If your child is due to start in Reception (Foundation Stage), children are offered places to start in Reception at the beginning of the September term after their fourth birthday, even if they intend to defer admission until later in the academic year.
Our Published Admission Number (PAN) is 75.
Devon County Council publishes information about admissions and its own policies to support the admissions application and appeals process. This is at www.devon.gov.uk/admissions. Applications can be made online at www.devon.gov.uk/admissionsonline or by using the forms available at http://devon.cc/applicationforms. There is an appeals process if an application is refused; this is detailed at www.devon.gov.uk/school-appeals.
For questions about your child joining the school or just about the admissions process in general, please don’t hesitate to contact us direct or contact Devon School Admissions Service on 0345 155 1019 or by email to admissions@devon.gov.uk.
Parents, carers and children will be invited in to visit the school once admission has been confirmed and the class teacher will arrange to make a home visit. We offer a “Getting to Know School” induction programme during which the organisation, administration and routines of the school are explained. Parents and carers will have opportunities to find out about the kind of learning experiences their child will meet. They will be informed about how they can get involved in school and also receive ideas on how to support their child at home.
During the induction process the children have the opportunity to spend time in their classroom, to meet their classmates and get to know the adults with whom they will be working. Induction takes place at the end of the term prior to the child starting school.
The school follows the Devon County Council Guidelines for Admissions and our Admissions Policy is available for download in the useful links below.
You can find our admissions policies under the useful links below - we review the school policy annually and may make changes if we feel this would be in the best interests of the school and our community. Each academic year has its own policy document, with details about how to apply for a place in school from the start of Reception through to Year 6.
The Bluecoat Nursery offers high quality care and education in a nurturing and stimulating environment. Children can join the Nursery in the term after their third birthday until their entry into Reception.
Application forms are available from the School Reception or can be downloaded in the Useful Links & Downloads below.
If you are interested in your child attending our school, you are welcome to come in and visit us. You can arrange a visit on 01805 622333 or by emailing admin@bluecoat-learn.org.
